해리 포터 Ok, so nobody wants to spoil anybody. How long do we have to wait before we can assume everyone's read DH?

Never assume it. Just put "spoiler alert" on it like normal.

Edit: Harold, if people started reading HP 1 today, people would have to put SPOILER ALERT on everything, things from the 2nd book! What if they are not done with the 1st book? Can we not talk about the Sorcerer's Stone? Nobody puts spoiler alert on things from the 5th book anymore. Someone could start reading HP in years from now. Face it - on a fansite readers are going to want to talk freely about the topic and a week is plenty of time for those who care enough not to want it be spoiled.
Chel1395, you don't think that people might start reading Harry Potter today, book 1, and come looking for information on fanpop? Asking people to read or watch everything before checking out the spot is ridiculous.
chunkyrice, you phrase the question itself with spoiler in it, such as Spoiler alert: what do you think about character X's death? There's plenty of room to do that, and no reason not to do so. This has been used to good effect in plenty of other spots, and when people don't, they tend to get flak about it.
The question you raise about a new reader is a good one, but with no good solution. And after all, we don't spoiler tag stuff from all the other books. When I'm in a spot for something I haven't completed, I usually assume I'm taking my chances. Of course, I hate it when I get spoiled. There's just not a good answer.
(maybe at some point it would be worthwhile to start seperate "new to", "just discovering" or "spoiler free" spots for really popular stuff? There are sites like that, I guess.)
As to reading speed, I read well over 1,000 WPM (1,200-something) with 90% retention. They tested it back in Undergrad school. What Cressida claims is entirely within reason.
And don't forget new readers. My sister just started and she's 7, so she can't exactly go back 10 years.
