I can see many similarities between Harry and Severus.

1. Both were half-blood.
2. They both had miserable childhoods.
3. They at a time were bullied by purebloods
4. They both had a special relationship with Dumbledore.
5. They were lonely, abused boys for whom Hogwarts was their only real home
6. Both were ready to die for others
7. Both loved Lily Evans
8. Both were brave and extremely loyal

WHOA WHOA WHOA. Snape was NOT the misunderstood hero of his time, okay? Yes, he was made fun of by James Potter (as Draco by Harry) and yes, he changed a lot, but that does not make him the poor chubby loser Neville was. He was also a sly greasy haired Slytherin who called people Mudblood, was messed up in dark magic and a member of the circle that became Death Eaters. Snape actually BECAME a death eater, surely that's not how Neville turned out. And then he realized it was not for him and quit. Rings any bells?

You guys are seriously overestimating Snape's bravery. Neville had a noble heart, he would do whatever was best for his friends. Snape cared only for himself and Lily, didn't give a flying f*** about her family. He was quick to succumb to peer pressure, calling Lily "mudblood" and hanging around Death Eaters. Neville knew what was right and stuck to it. He was brave enough to stand up to his friends, remember in Sorcerer's Stone?
I agree with delamico, both Snape and Draco were raised on Death Eater beliefs and for Snape, it wasn't until Voldemort killed his beloved that he realized Voldemort was wrong, and for Draco, well it seems he's somehow known deep down for quite some time.

Snape was brave and loyal to Dumbledore!!! He didn't just love Lily. Didn't you watch the last movie? Dumbledore looked at Snape and said "Don't tell me you haven't grown feelings for the boy." Snape cared about Harry, he just never showed it. Snape was a brave and good man. Just like Neville he was a brave and misunderstood wizard who was bullied and picked on.
