I've been having many heated discussions with my 프렌즈 Shalayna and Grace about Harry Potter vs. Twilight. Shalayna says,"You can't compare the two", and Grace says,"They're completely different." But it got me thinking: Why do so many Harry Potter and Twilight 팬 compare the two books? And is one really better than the other?

Ever since the start of literature, people have been comparing books. Maybe we're just naturally judgmental? The great Harry Potter vs. Twilight 토론 started, in my opinion, with The Chronicles of Narnia. When the Chronicles of Narnia came out it was possibly the greatest 판타지 series of the time. After that Lord of the Rings came out which was also a 판타지 series. These two 책 were most likely compared to each other. Then many years later, Harry Potter, another 판타지 series, came out. People began comparing that to the Chronicles of Narnia AND the Lord of the Rings. Then Twilight comes out, also a 판타지 series and people begin to compare it to Harry Potter. It's a constant cycle and pretty soon another 판타지 series will come out and it will be compared to Twilight.

Another reason why people compare the two 책 is because they both got the same reaction. Both 책 are immensely 인기 and have 팬 in almost every country. Although Twilight is mostly aimed at girls, it still had a similar reaction with Harry Potter. In my opinion, Harry Potter got an even bigger reaction because the series is unisex in a way. Harry Potter 팬 vary in gender, race, and age. When I used to go to the book openings there would be 4 년 olds, teenagers, parents, even grandparents. But if 당신 went to a Twilight book opening it would be mostly girls in the 14-24 range and maybe the occasional boy.

Even after all the arguing between me and my friends, we all have to agree that each series is good in it's own way. I'll have to admit that Twilight has it's moments and there are some days when I would rather read about 사랑 instead of action-packed wizarding adventure. Although in my opinion, Twilight's fandom will never be as big as the Harry Potter fandom. With series like these the fandom is one of the most important parts. We stayed up till midnight to get our hands on the books. When Twilight came along, we showed them how to do a book opening right. We started bands and created a whole new genre. Some of our bands started Twirock bands to help them along the way. We created fansites. They created fansites. We made T-shirts. They made T-shirts. We wrote fanfiction. They wrote fanfiction. We've got documentaries and conventions. They're probably planning on doing those next. In the end, I think that Harry Potter laid the foundation for this type of book fandom. I guess we just have to step aside and let Twilight have it's moment in the spotlight. They can build on our foundation and step aside for the 다음 판타지 series. I'm guessing that the 다음 big thing will be werewolves.
