A prophecy 질문 for the 팬 who can access their HBP book easily

OK So in the Horcruxes chapter, Harry and Dumbledore begin talking about horcruxes and about the prophecy. On pagez 509-510 Dumbledore says that "if Voldemort had never heard the prophecy, would it have been fulfilled? Would it have meant anything? Of course not!" He also says that it was a "grave error" that Voldemort acted on Trelawney's prophecy. But I disagree. They prophecy predicted that Voldemort was going to find Harry (or Neville) and mark him as his equal. Voldemort then fulfilled the prophecy 의해 finding out about the prophecy from Snape. Dumbledore argues that the prophecy would've never happened in Vodlemort didn't go out and kill the Potters, but the prophecy did not prompt Voldemort to do so, it was just predicting that Voldemort was going to do that. Do 당신 get what I'm trying to say? I don't know. I just disagreed with Dumbledore on this one. What is your opinion on this?

I think Rowling meant it as a philosophical argument for Free Will vs. Determinism. She based a large amount of the material in the series off of several different mythologies and one of the most prevalent veins in Greek mythology is the idea of whether humans control their own destiny 또는 are bound 의해 the machinations of the gods.

Personally, I believe in a combination of the two perspectives but I don't disagree with what Dumbledore said. If Voldemort hadn't marked Harry, Potter would have just grown up to be an average wizard.

Yeah, I know that, but Dumbledore thinks that the prophecy would've never happened if Snape didn't overhear it. But that WAS the prophecy! That Snape was going to listen and tell Voldemort about it. Technically the phophecy was going to come true none the less.

"The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches...Born to those who have thrice defied him, born as the seventh 월 dies...and the Dark Lord will mark him as his equal, but he will have power the Dark Lord knows not...and either must die at the hand of the other for neither can live while the other survives." Snape eavesdropping wasn't mentioned, and even if it had been, Snape had a choice whether to tell Voldemort just like Voldemort chose to act on it just like he chose Harry instead of Neville.
