Before we start, here an explanation how I put together the list: I went through my reviews from the first season and took a look at the “key-rating” I gave each of them. Then I listed all episodes, which had at least a rating of nine keys, and came up with eight episodes which scored that high. Naturally, one of them didn’t make the cut (Love Sick, in case 당신 are interested), the others were put in order. And here they, my 상단, 맨 위로 seven Grimm-episodes of season one. Why 상단, 맨 위로 seven? Because we are talking about fairy tales!
7: Last Grimm Standing
One of the 더 많이 action packed episodes of the first season. In the 초 season it has become common occurrence that Nick is fighting some kind of Wesen, but in the first season, the episodes were 더 많이 focused on the case. Truthfully, I liked it better that way, I don’t need drawn out fight scenes every other episode. But that doesn’t mean that I don’t appreciate a good fight when it fits into the episode and Last Grimm Standing offers exactly the kind of build-up and dramatic note needed to get the blood of the audience boiling.
6: Game Ogre
Oleg Stark is certainly one of the most terrifying Wesen the show has presented us with so far. The brutality of his kills and his near invincibility made him a very memorable opponent. One who actually did manage to put Nick in the hospital, which is easily the best part of the episode. Not because I like Nick getting hurt (okay, I admit he looks cute in his bandages), but because he actually stayed hurt. I 사랑 it whenever the show avoids the cliché in favor of a 더 많이 realistic approach, and this episode is a prime example of this.
5: Island of Dreams
One Word: Rosalee! This is the episode which introduced her, and she was a great addition to the show from the very first second. But she and the adorkable attraction between Monroe and her are not the only reason to appreciate the episode. I like the idea of a Wesen drug and a Wesen underground, and the score which is used when the audience is introduced into this world is pitch perfect! This episode, and the ones listed beyond, are those which I watched again, and again, and again, to a point where I can even quote some of the dialogue.
4: Leave It To The Beavers
There were two episodes which I seriously considered giving full points, but finally settled on nine keys. This was one of them. The only reason it didn’t get full points was that this episode turned the originally quite menacing reapers into idiots who chop each other’s head of. But otherwise, this episode is so much fun. It’s a general rule with Grimm that everything is better with beavers (or, to be precise, Bud!), and this episode has 비버 galore. On 상단, 맨 위로 of this, it is a very, very good translation of the fairy tale into modern times. And this episode is 출처 of some of my 가장 좋아하는 quotes: “I’m a Grimm. I am also a cop.” , “I told 당신 to meet me, not eat me.”, “For the first time of my life, I’m ashamed to be an Eisbiber” and “Suddenly it seems so wrong,” (Okay, this one is not that funny out of context).
3: Organ Grinder
This is the other episode which came very close to a top-rating, and would I make a list about the most disturbing and gruesome episodes, this one certainly would be the winner. It’s also the episode with the funniest scene in the whole show so far: The dinner, during which Monroe complains about Nick as if they are a married couples. And (I’m sensing a pattern here) this is also a very good translation of the fairy tale into modern times. Neglecting parents, desperate children lured into a trap, everything is there. Gracie is a character I felt for immediately, so my biggest complain with this episode is that they never really said what happened to the homeless children they rescued (some of them short of a few organs).
2: Cat and Mouse
Two episodes nearly got the ten-rating, two actually did. There is really nothing to criticize about “Cat and Mouse”, at least not in my eyes. The whole story about the hidden Wesen war and the resistance is the most interesting piece of information they ever added to the show, and a way better plot point than the key 또는 the coins. Walz is a great villain, the best they had in the first season, in a sense even better than Renard, because unlike Renard, he actually does something instead of constantly scheming in the background. The interaction between the characters is pitch-perfect, the 사랑 삼각형 very settled played, and honestly, I can’t watch this episode often enough.
1: Danse Macabre
There are two simple reasons why this one won over “Cat and Mouse”: 음악 and Roddy. The mix between techno and classical 음악 works very, very well, and let’s face it: a score can make 또는 break a scene. The scenes in which Roddy plays the violin 또는 calls the 쥐 are very memorable. But the character itself is too. Only one appearance, nevertheless unforgettable. I guess it’s because on the one hand, he is very relatable with his resentment towards the other students who bullied him (and everyone who experienced something similar at one point can feel for him), on the other hand he is this genius with the 믿을 수 없는 talent we all want to be. The story itself is very suspenseful, not just because the case isn’t that obvious, but also because Roddy going over the edge is a real possibility until the very end. Plus, and I know I sound like a broken record 의해 now, it is a very good translation of the fairy tale. I think Grimm is at its best when the writers manage to hit the core of a fairy tale instead of simply throwing elements of it together 또는 더 많이 또는 less ignoring it in order to tell their own story.
And that is, my favorites of season one. Feel free to share yours as well, but remember, everyone has their own taste; there is no right 또는 wrong in those lists.
