It was called Jon Snow, basketball, and accents: Five things we learned about Kit Harington from his OUT interview | EW.com
Here's some stuff I remembered seeing:
Kit Harington may play the know-nothing Jon Snow on HBO’s hit-series
, but he actually knows quite a bit. Except basketball—don’t ask him about basketball.
magazine for their upcoming June/July double issue all about Westeros, researching ancient ruins for
), and what’s up next for the 28-year-old actor. Here are a few things we learned from the interview, available here.
Jon Snow steps up this season: Those who have been tuning in so far this season know that Harington’s character has taken on a lot of responsibility, with even more to come. “Usually Jon’s got a good lot of scenes, but I don’t speak much. Quiet character. This year he talks a lot, because he’s got to be a politician, which is really weird for me. I also had more filming dates than, I think, anyone. There was a lot of Jon Snow stuff. I had a big season.”
People yell at him a lot: The catchphrase attached to his character, “You know nothing, Jon Snow!” is frequently shouted at him from a distance, along with the word “bastard.” “I can’t tell whether they’re talking about the show, or if they just don’t like me.” (
: While Harington only visited the Pompeii ruins post-filming, it was probably because he was spending so much time at the gym sculpting that eight-pack. “It’s a gladiator movie! You have your top off. He’s a fighter. He’s supposed to be very fit. I got very fit.” Later in the interview,
’ executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are quoted from an email to
saying Harington had a “devotion to abdominal definition that bordered on the fetishistic.”
He’s brushing up on his American accent: For his next project,
, the actor has been working with a dialect coach to fine-tune his American cadence. The film is the first English-language feature for the French-Canadian director Xavier Dolan, which also stars Jessica Chastain, Kathy Bates, and Susan Sarandon.
Harington knows nothing…about basketball: While in New York for the interview, Harington attended his very first basketball game. “I have no idea what the rules are, so I’ll just be the English guy in the crowd.”
