A bit of both actually. I used to be convinced she was, but now I see my logical fallacy in that assumption.

Sure, Beyonce's empowering to women, and she's talented, and confident and liberating- i can respect that and i ADORE her voice, it's just several things that lead me to believe she MIGHT not be a feminist...

1. A lot of her songs feature her singing about how a man is the world to her and how she'd do literally anything for him. Many focus on a boy being consistantly cruel to her, but she going back time and time again because she would, like i said, Do anything for him. Just a few examples are "if i were a boy", "end of time", "love on top" and "dance for you". These are all great songs, and there's nothing wrong with puppy dog romances, but the whole "born to serve you" thing, regardless of how he treats her, does send a negative message. Although i think it's unintentional.

2. "Run the world". I know i should probably love that song (i mean, it's a awesome beat and all) but i don't really think it captures what feminism is about. The music video is all about a war against men (why?), and how the women are clearly winning. But feminism is about gender equality rather than 'waging war against the opposite gender'. What i never saw was why they were fighting and why they didn't work together to make a cleaner, wonderful world. If it is all about overpowering everyone else rather than empowering yourself- that is not feminism. That is chauvinism.

3. Read the link above. Beyonce doesn't want to be labelled as a feminist. At all. And seems to think "bootylicious" (being curvy and proud) is the same as being a feminist. But feminism is for all shapes and sizes.

However, beyonce does have some redeeming moments, "broken hearted girl", would be one. and so would "single ladies" (STILL EPIC SONG! :D)

But, according to Feminist Fatale.com, she even CALLS herself a feminist.

This is part of why I say villainess:

Also, the way she dresses and acts in a lot of ways is slutty and portrays women as sex toys.

^ NCIS-number1 and KateKicksAss- what you did right there is slut shaming, which is really wrong and anyi-feminist. Just because you dress a certain way does not make you a slut. Your body is your own and you shouldn't be judged for using it.

Revealing outfits. She even got banned from a country because of it.
