The only reason why it may have been necessary is to interest little girls more, but it was so half-hearted that I don't even think it did this.

Pointless; randomly thrown in at the end.

It shows she can find a man by being herself.

I think friendship would have suited them better. There wasn't much to it, and it was randomly thrown in at the end.

it wasnt really nessisary, (hope i spelt it right), but it was also kinda cute, but it was kind of thought out because when shag starts singing i'll make a man out of you while taking his shirt off, mulan/ping looks suprised with a little bit of wow mixed in, so it wasnt just thrown in to make little girls dream of getting married but i dont think i would like the movie as much as i do now if their wasnt a romance.

I voted this because it shows that it is possible for tomboys like Mulan to find romance. I felt that the movie should have shown us what was happening on Shang's side. When did he start falling for her? Has he always liked her as a friend but until Mulan's identity was revealed and his feelings for her became romantic? Or did he wondered why he was having strange feelings about Ping and by the time Mulan's identity was revealed, he was happy knowing he is still straight but also mad b/c he felt that Mulan played a trick on him (which she didn't!)
