Gaston is used to getting his way and clearly feels entitled to Belles attention and affection because of his social status. When she rejected him it was a serious blow to his ego and then it all became personal for him. So I wouldn't necessarily call it "hard to get" but more of "hard to possess". posted over a year ago.

He does mention that she's the only woman in town who's as beautiful as he is, and then he was all like, "and don't I deserve the best?" But I think her refusals made her more of a "prize" to win in his eyes. His favorite hobby is hunting, so... posted over a year ago.
