I'll come back to this.
@ TheFabulousFan- I happen to think Ariel in the end sent a great message- she ended the prejudice that merpeople had toward the human world, and united two worlds. And yes she was impulsive, but she did not get a free ride, she had to make some sacrifices, and for the thousandth time she did care about her family- King Triton also felt ( as he should have) that he may have been a little too hard on her and pushed her too far. Her Sisters understood right away what was going on with her when she was acting weird. And although she couldn't speak, she kissed Sebastian, and patted him on the head for helping her out while in Eric's Castle.
In the End her dad saw the truth, and they both knew that this was not goodbye ( as all fathers know when they give their daughters away at their wedding- its just away of saying- I trust you , and despite any fights we might of had you are still my daughter, ---you are still my father) and that's why they give eachother a big hug and she whispers " I love you Daddy", and Eric politely bows to his new father -in - law, which Triton acknowledges with a friendly smile.
So as I have said her biggest flaw is being impulsive. But going after a dream, and uniting two worlds is a great message.
Also, "It's okay to disobey your parents, rush into dangerous situations, gamble your life on an unlike outcome you have little control over, get into debt with a loan shark, etc. because everything will magically work out in the end. If it doesn't, your family and friends (who you constantly blew off and mistreated) will come bail you out and give you everything you want and everything will be peachy keen."
I think TLM have a good message " Never give up going after your dreams"
I am not sure if I should vote for the intended message of for what the movie ended up saying....if I go for the latter, I pick Brave, since this movie is basically saying "No matter how big your fuck-up are and if you nearly cause a war, if you just say sorry not only everything will be okay, you will also get everything you want".
Snow White: True beauty is inner beauty, kindness is repaid and true love conquers all
Cinderella: If you keep believing and keeping up good spirits, you will get your lucky break at one point
Sleeping Beauty: No matter how powerful evil is, the good will prevail in the end.
The Little Mermaid: Children need the freedom to pick their own path - but parents might have a point from time to time, too.
Beauty and the Beast: Again true beauty is inner beauty and don't judge people by their appearances
Aladdin: Don't be ashamed of where you come from. Your true worth doesn't lie in your rank but in your abilities. And don't lie.
Pocahontas: Be tolerant and try to understand different cultures.
Mulan: Be yourself and use your own strengths instead of allow your gender to limit you.
TPatF: What you want is not necessarily what you need (along with an unintended "wishing upon stars is stupid")
Tangled: Follow your dreams and don't hide who you really are
Brave: I guess the intended message was that you should always try to understand the perspective of someone else? Or that there are no short cuts to reaching an understanding? Or that you should try to change your fate yourself instead of relying on spells? (mmm...I guess I would have voted for Brave either way, because the message of the movie is not really clear).
