Unlike a lot of people I think she did. I thought she did when she said "Daddy I'm sorry, I didn't mean to, I didn't know, I..." though it is a fair argument that she was afraid her daddy would punish her. However when Triton turns into a plant you can tell in her face that she's just all like "Daddy? Oh no! What have I done? This is all my fault". Plus when Ursula is casing chaos and destruction I find it hard to believe that she didn't feel like the entire mess was her fault. I think what showed she had changed was that she didn't beg her father to change her back but just wanted to see Eric one last time. Plus when she said "I love you daddy" it showed she really grew. Just my opinion.

I don't think she did. For the entire movie, she did not give a crap about anybody else's opinions and had no regard to other's feelings. She got what she wanted because Triton felt bad, not because she learned her lesson. She only "owned up" when her father found out, and that Ursula was making everything hell. She knew that Ursula was a sea witch, but she still went for her. I personally think that neither her or her father have respect for one another because they cannot even have a civil conversation; it's alright to argue, but they constantly talk down to one another. Triton saw her gazing at Eric at the end, and when she saw him turning human, she ran to Eric's arms and married him. She did not suffer any consenquences for her stupid and reckless actions, and the fact that she knew the results makes it even worse. It is extremely hard for me to like her.

kataralover, BEAUTIFUL! I completely agree! in the scene when triton was going to destroy her collection, she showed a ton of emotion and shows completely that she didn't want him to do that. Why is it in the scene that she reacts even worse than that people don't believe she really meant it? She reacted even worse than how she did when her collection was going to be destroyed and everyone knows that she didn't want her collection destroyed. Why is it that when it has to Do with her mistake the fact that she meant it cannot be accepted? Like you said KataraLover, Ariel truly meant it. I don't think that her reactions was fake and she didn't learn her lesson. Ariel loves her dad, she learned her lesson.I don't think ariel is going to almost cry when her dad is turned into a plant and not realize it was her fault

I dont see where you guys are seeing the "I regret my actions" part. she seemed more like a kid who got caught screwing up to me. only when the worst could happen DID happen did she seem to feel at all bad. she's all the worst traits of a kid combined. she is single-minded and focused only on her own desires, no matter how many people it might hurt. plus everything turned out wonderfully in the end so I don't see how she learned she did anything wrong.

I agree 100% with Jayden-G.

I think she realized the trouble she had caused, but I don't think she cared because she got what she wanted. I don't believe she learned from her mistakes at all.

girlygirlspwn, I am not a die hard Ariel fan, she's 6th place on my list. But I actually agree with KataraLover, I do believe she learned from her mistakes. Why do you think she was so strict in the second movie? This is my opinion.

She did learn. In the 2nd movie she's the total opposite- strict and less fun. She'd do almost anything to make sure that trouble doesn't happen again, even if everyone feels miserable. Guys- It's just harsh to say she didn't. That's like calling her a heartless bimbo. It is unnatural to not not to realize her mistakes and shrug it off a year later. That's just heartless. Both of the people.

^^ We are not talking about a year later or the sequel; we are talking about the ending of the first film. Obviously she is not heartless, but what did she exactly learn? Obviously she felt bad and apologizing for all of his happening, but she did not apologize for her choices an instead apologized for the fact that he plan failed and that Ursula was causing havoc, and she only did this because he found out and after Ursula baited her out. She is sorry for all of the trouble that happened, not her choices. At least Merida was truly sorry, even though her situation is not much better. At the end, she did not say goodbye to Eric, just gazing at him longingly. She knew that Ursula was a sea witch, and knew what could have happened. Many people on Fanpop bitch and complain about Pocahontas and Tiana saying "I don't like them because they are not as adventurous as Ariel or Rapunzel", but I would prefer a person that is not adventurous than a careless, reckless 16 year old who makes the dumbest decisions for the dumbest things.

I do not mean to harm anyone if my words come across as harsh

Realized all the trouble she caused, yes. Learned from her mistakes, no because she got everything she wanted and never sincerely apologized for her unbelievably selfish choices, she only apologized for what was happening. I strongly agree with everything Jayden-G said, as well as everyone else who said no.

I agree with AllegroGiocoso and Jayden-G. KataraLover a lot of times when a child is in trouble or realizes they have been caught they pull the "I love you card" That was not her realizing her mistake that was a ploy so that her daddy would not punish her, and it WORKED! My girls have tried that and I did too when I was a kid (as a child you are thinking they can't be mad if you hug them, give sad eyes and say you love them oh AND SAY YOU DID NOT KNOW)come on she is 16 not stupid...by saying she did not know, she was not owning up to her mistake, thus she learned nothing. SHe was acting like Merida at first ("it was not my fault")the difference being unlike Merida Ariel never admitted what she did was wrong and that she should not have done what she did and that she deserved to be punished....

hajirah4 in the second movie she was older,a woman, with a child....so yeah she changed then. When you become a parent your whole attitude changes and you realize what a horrible child you have been to your parent and you don't want the same things coming back on you...I have heard it said that however you are as a child you get it back double through your own (Ariel did)..I was a good kid (my husband not so much)..."strict and less fun" She is a PARENT! "Guys- It's just harsh to say she didn't. That's like calling her a heartless bimbo. It is unnatural to not not to realize her mistakes and shrug it off a year later. "...Quite a few teenage girls act like that and it is completely natural, not right, but natural....she was a selfish teenage girl who thought she knew what was best for herself and that her father was just a cruel tyrant...but he was just trying to protect her out of love and protect her from her own reckless self...when you become an adult and have your own children you will understand Tritons point of view better...

most of the young girls (or young boys who see themselves as Ariel) are looking at it from Ariels point of view only because they sympathize with her and want to believe she was in the right because they want to be like her...if they admit she was wrong and selfish then they will have to admit that maybe they are selfish and are also disrespecting their parents and maybe their Parents are in the right as well.

You haven't been on here as long as some of us, including me, have been. I know when there's a troll or not, I use to be one and I'm ashamed of it. Trust me she's a troll, whenever they make stupid and immature comments that some six year old would make they're trolls.

KataraLover I have been on here LONGER then you (2007). And I have said the same thing to people when I think they are saying something silly. It is also a common statement to say to my friends when they are acting funny.....hopefully a six year would not understand that statement....since it is asking if you are smoking weed (you are acting silly you must be on drugs)......

Those kids need better parents....I am also surprised what comes out of kids mouths, but it does not make it right...At the school I am at I heard some 5 yr old girls singing the whistle song and was horrified, I asked them to stop but they thought it was about actual whistling and it made for a awkward moment....Children should not know things like that and I try to protect my children as long as I can....What I was trying to say is that the comment made was not an immature comment (I am not immature and I say it)....also I have been here longer then you and I never noticed you being a troll(maybe that was when I took a break....or was that when you harassed me when I came back on, I thought you were just being a douche not a troll)I also know what trolling is (my husband has done it on other sites)

Not sure. Realize, yes, but learned, no. I don't denyimg the fact that she said "Daddy I'm sorry, I didn't mean to." when she know Triton was in danger. Maybe she was regret, felt guilty, and apologize with her father. But just that, nothing more. She didn't change at all. Ask apologize doesn't mean she learn or change. She never think that the danger was the consequence of what she did and the way she choose.
Also, after she got all things she wants (being human and marrying Eric) she seens to be forgot about her mistakes, she only cares for her happiness and don't really care about Triton, her buddy, or her family as well. So I really doubt that Ariel was learn or change. Instead Triton was change as he let her daughter go to got her happiness.
