Who are Damon, Elena, and Stefan, the triangle at the center of the show?

What the hell? There are people saying that Damon tried to rape Elena. Why did the writers really have to go down the road? He killed her brother(almost)! I don’t really see how she can forgive him after all the bad thing he have done to her. It would have been better if he just left angry after she said, " It will always be stefan" and killed a random person then her brother.
