Critical Analysis of Twilight Article: Jacob Black vs Edward Cullen

I am totally ignoring Breaking Dawn in this because Stephenie Meyer broke all the rules in there. [Vampires cant have children, they have no body fluids, etc etc]
Reasons i think Jacob is better for Bella than Edward is:
1. Edward/Bellas relationship is based on appearance. She is constantly talking about how good he looks, how velvety his voice is, how graceful he is, etc. She said Jacob was beautiful once 또는 twice and called his new muscles impressive once 또는 that she is jealous of his tan skin. She thinks Edward is too good for her because she looks plain 다음 to him. She thinks Jacob is too good of a person for her.
"[About Edward] the contrast between us was painful. He looked like a god. I looked average, even for a human."-Page 65 New Moon
"[About becoming a vampire] I hoped I would be as strong, fast and most of all beatiful, someone who could stand 다음 to Edward and feel like she belonged there." -Page 344 Eclipse
"Id never done anything good enough to deserve a friend like Jacob" Page 60 Breaking Dawn
"[About Jacob] I wondered if he was just to proud of his new muscles that he couldnt stand to cover them up. I had to admit, they were impressive-but id never thought of him as vain."-Page 215 Eclipse
2.Edward is controlling.
-Taking apart her truck to "protect" her. She is in 더 많이 danger around him and his family than she is in La Push.
-Has Alice keep her hostage while he is gone so she cant see Jacob.
-Not letting her see her friends.
-Deciding everything for her(what college she goes to, what car she drives, where and when she goes places, etc)
-Manipulating her. He is constantly 키싱 her to distract her from arguments.
-Lying to her. He kept Alice's vision a secret.
-An example of him being controlling:
"'Get in Bella'
I didnt answer, I was mentally calculating my chances of reaching the truck before he could catch me.....
'I'll just drag 당신 back' he threatened,guessing my plan" -Page 104 Twilight
3. They only met and dated because he liked her blood andwas interested in why he couldnt read her mind and she only dated him because he was good looking and mysterious. If he wouldve been able to read her mind, he wouldve blown her off like he did to Jessica.
4. Shes happy with Jacob. She is always laughing and having a good time. She can finally be a normal teenager. With Edward, she has to act grown up all the time and watch what she says so she doesn't upset him.
"As we walked, I felt myself settling into another version of myself, the self I had been with Jacob. a little younger, a little less responsible" -Page 101 Eclipse
5.If 뱀파이어 never existed, Jacob and Bella wouldve been together.
6.She almost chose Jake at the end of New Moon before Edward acted like a pyscho and went to Italy.
"[About giving Jake a chance]Maybe it wouldnt feel like betrayal. Besides, who was i betraying anyway? Just myself" Pahge 411 New Moon
"It wouldnt be easy. In fact, it would be downright miserable to give up my hallucinations and try to be grown up. But maybe i should do it. Maybe i could if I had Jacob" Page 372 New Moon
7.If it werent for Jacob and the pack, Victoria wouldve killed Bella in New Moon when Edward left. Edward is always putting her in danger.
8.When Edward is away, Bella sees sense.
"[About cliff diving/dying] What if something happened to me? What would that do to Charlie? -Page 371 New Moon
But when Eward is with her, Bella forgets everyone and doesnt think of the consequences of any of her actions. She worries about what would happened to her father if something happened to her if she died. But, isnt it the same thing if she were to become a vampire? She would have to give him up.
"[About becoming a vampire] As long as I could have Edward, what else mattered?"
9. Their relationhip is extremely unhealthy. They are obsessed with eachother. Edward even calls Bella his own "personal brand of heroin".
10. Bella loves warm, sunny places like phoenix. If she were to be a vampire, she can never live in places like that ever again.
11. Edward selfishly takes eveything away from Bella if he were to turn her. Her family, the abiltity to have kids, to grow old. Bella is too young to make that decision. She might get like Rosalie who is depressed because she can never hae kids 또는 grow old. If he realy truly loved her, he would leave and let her have a normal happy life.

cassie-1-2-3 I kind of think Jacob's sexual assault on Bella outweighs every single downside Edward has. If it weren't for that, i wouldn't mind Jacob at all. That was just disgusting.

JacobbBlackk Theres no excuse for him kissing her against her will, but its nothing compared to edwards over protectiveness. Also, Edward threw her into glass when Jasper attacked her. And its not like Jacob raped her, he kissed her.

cassie-1-2-3 Throwing Bella into glass was a complete accident, forcefully kissing Bella against her will was not. That's the biggest difference there. I just think any physical, unwanted advance is much worse than telling someone what to do every once in a while. It doesn't have to be rape to be bad or disgusting. Imagine actually experiencing something like that, it's just... ugh. Gross.

JacobbBlackk Regardless, Jacob is the better choice. He isnt a 100+ year old vampire. Hes immature sometimes because hes a 16 year old boy. Making mistakes is part of what makes him human. Edward is too "perfect". It not "every once in a while",its constant.

cassie-1-2-3 Right. Regardless, Jacob sexually assaulted a woman, his best friend, he claims her to be.. That's where I stand, that is all. Do you genuinely believe that bring consistently controlling, as you put it, to be perfect? I'll never understand some people. I don't think you realize that you can't use the "He's too perfect" argument and the "He has too many imperfections" argument at the same time. It just doesn't work.

JacobbBlackk Bella thinks he Edward isperfect and can do now wrong. I already said that Jacob had no right to "sexually assualt" her. Jacob is the right choice because he has imperfections and makes mistakes.

JacobbBlackk Are you an idiot? Im saying Bella THINKS Edward is perfect while,in reality, hes not. Hes controlling and abusive. For some reason, she doesnt realize this and gives up everything for him. Is that enough explanation for you? Do you understand now? And, is the only argument you have against Jacob is that he kissed her?

cassie-1-2-3 Yes, I am a huge idiot. Moving on. Bella had her fair share of complaints about Edward. But she doesn't let those few things ruin her perception of him. I think that's what a lot of normal people do. Just because a person has flaws, that doesn't always mean you should hate them forever. I don't have any arguments against Jacob, I don't need to have any. I did throw you a massive hint when I said "If it weren't for that, i wouldn't mind Jacob at all. That was just disgusting." (PS, it's possible to like Edward's character without hating Jacob. They are not two inversely related entities)

JacobbBlackk Okay. I understand Bella forgives Edward but she shouldnt forgive him when he does it constantly. Normal couples fight and have disagreements. He manipulates her into doing whatever he wants. Thats not healthy. Bella needs to get a back bone and stick up for herself. For example, if i was Bella and i wanted to go see Jacob, i wouldnt of ran upstairs and slammed my window THEN OPENED IT when Edward disabled my truck. I wouldve asked Charlie to take me there or if he could look in my truck and notice the piece missing. But no, Bella thinks Edward can do no wrong and its only for her safety. Who was there protecting her when Edward ran away like a bitch? Jacob. And he has the nerve to say Jacob is unsafe. The hell? Edward isnt a HORRIBLE character and in ways i do like him. I dont hate him. I just hate how he treats Bella.

yemi_hikari If I remember correctly, didn't Jacob try to kiss Bella after she had misled him a bit about their relationship and where it was going? So... Jacob wasn't entirely at fault there. That said, while he shouldn't have kissed her despite the fact she didn't want it... I consider Edward's behavior worse because it is a constant for him, while with Jacob it was a one time deal.

cassie-1-2-3 No. Jacob forced her to kiss him after she told him she didn't want to be in a relationship with him. Bella never told Jacob she wanted to date him, or that she wanted to be romantically involved with him. She told him over and over again that she wanted to be close friends with him. Jacob's just stupid and stubborn and thinks "friends" means "soul mates" or something. He was delusional.

If the world was the sane place it was supposed to be, Jacob and i would have been together. And we would have been happy. He was my soul mate in that world) Yeah he is stubborn. Wouldnt you do anything to save the person you loved who wad making a mistake. Have you ever thought about the pain Jacob must be in? Maybe he kissed Bella to try to get her to realize what she was giving up(for example: on the mountain, she kissed him and realizes she loves him) She does love him. And he knows it. He was trying to get her to realize.

cassie-1-2-3 Yes... But you still can't force a person to love you by sexually violating them. Just because she loves him in a a life that doesn't exist, that does not mean she owes him anything. I really hate when people think that way. "You feel this way, so you have to be with me". It's disgusting. There's still such a thing as free agency and choice. You'e allowed to love someone and not be with them romantically. Romance and intimacy is a personal matter, and the decision to participate should be your own.

JacobbBlackk Its not "you love me and you have to choose me" its "im trying to make you realize youre making the wring decision and youre about to leave your family forever for a guy". I already agreed that Jacob kissing her was wrong. Is that the ONLY argument you have? Ive listed several reasons and gave examples and all you have is one. Jacob is better for Bella and Bella shouldve chose him. Cased closed. Court dismissed. Bring in the dancing lobsters.

cassie-1-2-3 Yes, it's the only argument I have, I've already told you. It's the only argument I want to have and the only argument I need. To be honest, I disagree with your entire article, but it's not worth arguing over because I don't care that much. THIS is the only topic I find worth discussing. Can you live with that?

fallenangel88 Well, I have to agree with Jacob, I mean many guys have been nervous kissing someone they don't know if they like them back or not, and bella never fought back. cassie-1-2-3 It happens in the books. All the various times where Bella calls in pushy, manipulative, and whatnot. She doesn't have to think he's ugly or had a horrible voice to find his imperfections. You have to also remember that Jacob is a lot stronger than Bella. He can control the way she moves with the strength of his arms. And what do you mean she never fought back? She punched him and broke her hand. If she had kneed him, she would have broke her knee.
