well it showed that spike was better :) he got through his torturing of the first because buffy believed in him, angel knew that buffy loved him but he was still going to kill himself. i know there are plenty of counterpoints to that argument, but for me it's just another reason to show spike is the best. *don't burst my bubble*

For me it was more that I'm not a huge Amends fan. It has nothing to do with my shipping but it just seemed to be a character weakness in Angel and I was never a huge fan of that episode whereas I feel they did a fantastic job of using Dru and Buffy on Spike - just more emotional for me and more about what hurts him emotionally than what makes him feel guilty.

at the time he had no idea why he was back and what for and then the first started messing wiht his head, with spike buffy had been through the first before! i dont know god is this guna turn into more of which character you like more! lol! i felt like it got to angel alot more than it did to spike!

I think it got to Angel more than it got to Spike because of a character issue. Angel is a character, who in my mind, tries to distance himself from others becuase he either a)feels he is unworthy or b)feels that he knows better for them - because of this I feel that Angel was disconnected. Angel was, as far as he was concerned, alone and deserved to die. In Spike I believe that he wanted to live and go on simply because he was connected. Angel was more willing to go along with the first because he felt he was a burden while Spike wanted to go on to prove he wasn't one.

Angel was hit hard but on an emotional level as the viewer I felt more of a connection through Dru/Buffy than Jenny. JennyFirst was attacking his past and possible future while DruFirst was attacking Spike's self worth. I find it more interesting to watch a character battle with who they are and what they are about then what they might do.

The first could inhabit anyone who died so Spike and Angel are both up for grabs. They used Spike to a degree but they couldn't really use Angel as David was on the WB with Angel while Buffy was on UPN.

I really loved this episode, I love the ending where Buffy and Angel are standing on the top of the hill fighting and the speech Buffy gives to Angel about being strong.

Oh i just realized what the pick meant lol.

I think it could be either really, the first tormented them both just as bad but in different ways.

I agree with both Cat,Katie and Debs on this..Angel was tormented by the First but not as bad as Spike had it in Season 7. See in Season 7 was about the HellMouth creation by The First evil..Spike was in total torment by The First, because his now a vampire with Soul..he fought for his soul for Buffy..Angel was cursed by it..I think that the trigger with The First on vampires. With any vampires that was tormented by their soul The First wants them to suffer even more.And Buffy the chosen slayer, was Guardian of The First. The chosen Slayer to have both vampires fallen in love with. Kind like a fairy tale. A Slayer and A Vampire both fallen in love. How hot is that.

Also, Season 3 Amends was only one epsiode with Angel that he was torment by The First.

Spike was in total pain,suffering by The First from the very beginning of Season 7 till "Lies My Parents Told Me" more suffering that Spike had to fight with The First than Angel..
