aeiou, okay, so im about to type a lot of garbage because...

okay, so im about to type a lot of garbage because theres this show called death battle on youtube that recently had a match up between dante and bayonetta with a result i just cant accept. anyway, this is basically a nerd rant because im hung up on this and just want to get my words out somewhere

alright, so, first of all, i want to say that the people who do death battle typically do a good job at what they claim to do: lots of research into the history of the characters they have fight each other. ive never had a beef with them because they actually do the researchin the bayonetta vs dante fight, they hinge the battles deciding factor in dantes favor on 3 things that arent even true

the first thing is that dante can swing his sword fast enough to obliterate raindrops as theyre falling. this just plain flat out didnt happen in devil may cry 3. in the scene they used, dante and virgil are swinging their swords really fast, but they are not obliterating every raindrop. the rain stops during their fight as a result of dante and virgil slamming their swords together. the shockwave creates enough force to stop the rain in a dome around them. as soon as the shockwave falls apart, the rain thats built up over the shockwave drops on them. the argument here was that bayonetta would never be able to dodge his sword strikes. not only is it flat out wrong that dante could swing as fast as they said he could, bayonetta has dodged bullets at the very last instant without breaking a sweat and without slowing down time

the second thing is dante’s sheer durability. while its true that hes been stabbed a billion times, hes also been shown to be able to be exhausted from repeated strikes, which has happened more than once. the guy is cocky and will let himself take damage to try and show off. and while it is true that bayonetta never gets hit because she dodges all the time, the only time we see her actually get stabbed, she fell asleep. the dagger was specifically designed to seal her away. if you want a comparison for durability, she walked through a storm that was strong enough to lift cars and toss them around at high speeds, with smaller bits of debris being thrown around like it was nothing. storms like this do occur in real life and, generally, these same storms kill people because of the debris swinging around at bullet speed and stabbing through them. the debris is one of the most dangerous parts of any high wind storm. but bayonetta walked through this like it was nothing. meaning either she dodged EVERY SINGLE PIECE OF DEBRIS in the storm. or the debris couldnt pierce her because she was that durable. oh, she also survived re-entry into the earth’s atmosphere.

lastly, dantes weaponry. there is nothing, at all, that implies that his weapons are any stronger than hers. not to mention that all his weapons are demon based. bayonetta’s whole schtick is subjugating demons to do her bidding via contract. the one time a demon she controlled tried to fight against her, she kicked its ass and forced it back under her control.

basically, none of this stuff is substantiated and it feels like the guys behind this didnt do the research they usually do. now, im not going to deny that i prefer bayonetta over dante, but i also like several of the losing characters in previous match ups better than the winners. ive never had an issue with their stuff before, but this one in particular just keeps bothering me. in the past, it seemed like they always had actual research to back up their claims, but this time the result just keeps screaming at me that it’s wrong. ive played and love both the devil may cry and bayonetta series immensely. they are my favorite action games. and i have a hard time believing that bayonetta could lose to dante. at best, it would be an even match up. i feel like thats likely what happened and the people behind the show left it to a vote to decide who would win, then fudged a bunch of reasons why dante would win, none of which are even true. if anything, bayonetta’s ridiculous strength and reaction time would give her an edge. oh, and, even though it’s inconsistent in the game, we see that bayonetta actually can layer her witch time ability and has a limited ability to control her bullets after shes fired them in a couple of cutscenes.

anyway, i know the crew behind death battle isnt going to see this and even if they did, they wouldnt change their minds, but even when a character i didnt prefer won on their show, it always seemed right. this doesnt, though. something isnt adding up and i wish i knew the answer. thats all the nerd garbage from me for one night. im going back to playing pokemon.
