is ova a new beggining and ending of an 아니메 또는 is it a continuation?

can 당신 plzz help me, i know what it stands for but i was watching an 아니메 and it finished. then there was another episode and it had ova in it so i got confused. so basically there a 12 episodes and then there was a 13 but said ova
