Such a wonderful scent. It danced on his tongue and he wanted more. He couldn’t stop. The warm blood filled his belly and he wanted it all. But a cold hand gently pushed him away.
“That’s my boy,” murmured Darla. “I think I shall name 당신 Angelus. The demon with the face of an angel.” She smiled sweetly at him and the moonlight glinted off her fangs. Angelus found himself being led out of the alley and towards a lone woman hurrying down the dark street.
“There,” she whispered. “That one’s yours. Have your fill.”
He sprang towards the innocent, the sound of her 심장 pumping blood through her veins overpowering in his ears, and he didn’t care that his beat no longer. He held onto the frightened woman fast and changed his face.
“Scream for me,” he hissed.
앤젤 awoke with a start, the tang of blood still on his lips. If it was still able to, he imagined with 심장 would be pounding. Lately he had been dreaming about his bloody past, and Darla was always there. There were also a few episodes which had no historical reference to him. He rubbed the sleep from his eyes and flipped the bedsheets back. Throwing on his usual dark attire and beloved leather coat, 앤젤 opened the door and found Cordelia waiting irritably.
“About time! It’s almost dawn! We have a case! Let’s go!” she exclaimed. “Gunn and Wesley are waiting down 의해 the sewer entrance.”
“Where’s my broadsword?” he mumbled, yawning widely. Suddenly he was wide awake, seeing said weapon in the hands of Cordelia Chase and pointed a mere inch from his face. Angrily, he slapped the blade away and snatched the hilt from her.
“Watch where 당신 point that,” he growled.
Cordy smirked at him. “Why? Afraid it’s going to turn 당신 into a pile of dust?”
“You know it has to be wood to do that. And strike through my heart.”
“What heart?”
“Very funny.”
A voice called up from down below. “Angel, 당신 comin’?”
“Yeah, Gunn, hang on a minute.” The vampire dashed down the stairs to the main level of the Hyperion Hotel and headed to the sewer entrance.
“There 당신 are, Angel. What took so long?” asked Wesley with his clipped British accent.
“Hey, Wes. What’s up?”
“Hellspar demon. Terrorizing the locals around the Cineplex on 7th street. Already taken three lives.”
“God, I hate those.”
“Mm.”
Gunn jogged up behind him. “Ready to kick some demon ass?”
“Where’d 당신 come from?”
“Oh, I had to get my axe. See?” he grinned. Pointing to his handmade weapon.
“Let’s get to work.” 앤젤 led his companions through the dark tunnels of the sewer. They spoke little, and soon 앤젤 halted in front of a tunnel column leading to aboveground.
“Here’s our stop,” he muttered.
“How are we supposed to get up? There’s no ladder! Great, now we’re – “ Gunn started to complain.
앤젤 crouched, and after a few seconds, leapt up high and landed on a ledge higher up in the column.
“Show-off,” Gunn muttered.
Using his 수퍼내츄럴 strength, the vampire lifted the sewer lid and flung it aside. Good. The sun wasn’t out just yet. He crawled out and, taking a rope Wesley had thought to bring, tied one end on a nearby lamppost and sent the other end into the sewer.
A few moments later, Gunn and Wesley appeared at his side. The Cineplex sat before them, dark and looming. Evil seemed to pour out and it was stifling, even out here in the pre-dawn light.
“Let’s go. The sun is almost up,” muttered Angel. The shattered glass door swung open with a touch. Everything was pitch-black. All of Angel’s senses were on high alert and his ears twitched at the slightest sound.
“Stay behind me,” he whispered.
Gunn gripped the handle of his axe 더 많이 tightly. “I don’t like this. It’s too qui – “
Suddenly a furious roar was forced at them and the Hellspar demon charged. It was an ugly creature, with dark gray skin stretched across its powerful frame, four beady red eyes, long black tusks, and lethal claws. Saliva dripped from its jaws and it roared again, showing several rows of razor-sharp teeth like a 상어 would have. Composed of brute force, carnivorous fury, and a whole lot of solid muscle, 앤젤 saw that this one was especially dangerous.
“Get back!” he shouted, dashing towards the demon.
“Angel, no!” Gunn started after him, but Wesley held him back.
“He knows what he’s doing.”
앤젤 was only a few feet away from the knife-like claws that were slicing through the air when he halted abruptly.
“Come and get me, ugly,” he taunted. At the last 초 he jumped, clearing the brute’s tremendous height and thrusting his blade into its back just before he landed. It vociferated with pain, but it was only wounded. Turning fast, it caught 앤젤 in the chest with his tusks and barely missed the vampire’s dead heart. He grimaced as the Hellspar demon gripped him with its talons and tossed him aside.
“Okay, 당신 can help now!” 앤젤 called weakly. Blood seeped from the hole in his chest and the punctures in his back from the demon’s claws. Wesley and Gunn dashed 앞으로 without hesitation.
The demon charged towards them and 앤젤 watched helplessly as it crashed into a massive concrete pillar, making it crumble to the floor and almost crush his friends. He slowly got up and, leaning heavily on his sword, made his way back to the fight. Glancing up, 앤젤 noticed the huge projector system hanging overhead and it gave him an idea. He scrambled towards a 계단 통, 계단 door and dashed up towards the scaffolding that surrounded the projector. 앤젤 found he could rip the system from the ceiling with little difficulty. All he had to do was wait for the Hellspar to be right beneath it.
“Gunn! Wes! Drive it underneath the projector!” he shouted. Acknowledging that they heard him, the pair slowly forced the demon to position. Finally, 앤젤 tore the projector from its place and flung it down, catching the demon on the base of its skull and causing it to fall flat on the floor. Wesley quickly finished it off with a thrust of his blade to its 심장 and the threesome watched as it dissolved into an acrid green fog and dissipated altogether.
“That’s about the only thing I like about Hellspar demons. Easy clean-up,” 앤젤 muttered.
“Now that’s what I call a hard day’s work!” crowed Gunn.
“Is everyone all right? Angel? Oh, my God, Angel!”
The pain was suddenly too much for the vampire. He was already tired when they had left the hotel and now the exhaustion of a grueling battle along with the harsh injuries that he had sustained overpowered him. Rapidly slipping into unconsciousness, he fell from the scaffolding and plummeted to the floor.
“Come in.”
The door opened and Lindsay McDonald walked in.
“Hello, Darla.”
“Hello, Lindsay.”
“Did 당신 see 앤젤 again last night?”
“Yes, I did.” Darla stepped slowly towards a 표, 테이블 that sat against the wall, and played with a vase of 장미 that sat there, bringing the fragrant 꽃 to her 도자기 nose. “This time he dreamt of the night that my Angelus was born.”
Lindsay smiled grimly to himself. No doubt that memory was a painful one. Then a sudden thought flashed into his mind, and he thought for a moment.
“How do 당신 make him stay asleep?”
Darla grinned and pulled a small vial filled with a shimmery deep purple powder from her pocket and held it up, turning it in the dim light.
“I use this. All I have to do is sprinkle it on his eyes and he is unable to awaken for several hours.”
“Excellent.”
“Angel? Angel, can 당신 hear me? C’mon, wake up!”
Buffy?
앤젤 slowly opened his eyes and blinked. The room spun in and out of focus, and he swore that he saw the Slayer leaning over him.
“Buffy?”
The figure huffed. “No, dummy. I’m Cordelia. 당신 left Buffy in Sunnydale, remember?”
Oh.
The wounded vampire tired to sit up and he just barely could. Cordelia kept chattering away.
“You know, it’s a good thing 당신 heal so fast, otherwise 당신 would’ve died.”
“I already am dead, Cordy,” 앤젤 muttered.
“Oh, yeah,” she laughed nervously. Cordelia kept glancing back at the door behind her.
“Cordelia?”
She turned to face him, a fake smile plastered on her face. “Yeah?”
“What is it you’re not telling me?”
The smile faded and she gazed at him seriously. “Angel, we know something’s wrong. For the past couple weeks, 당신 have been sleeping at odd hours, you’re never completely alert, and 당신 never get hurt this bad. What’s going on?”
앤젤 was silent for a moment, and when he looked up at Cordelia, he found that she was glaring at him.
당신 better tell me, mister, 또는 I swear you’ll be hurting a whole heck of a lot 더 많이 than 당신 are now!” Cordy threatened.
앤젤 sighed. “I’ve been having dreams – “
“Oh, no. this isn’t like that time when youwere dreaming of being Angelus and murdering people, when it was one of the vamps 당신 sired and he was repeating what he and 당신 did 200 years ago, is it?” she exclaimed. “Wesley! Get up here!”
“No, Cordy, it’s not like that at – “
Wesley burst into the room. “What’s wrong?”
“Angel’s been dreaming about killing again!” Cordelia exclaimed.”
“No, I – “
“Oh, no. I should go get some chain. I’ll be right – “
“Hey!” 앤젤 shouted. “It’s nothing like that at all, okay?Just listen to me. Yes, I have been dreaming. About Darla. I don’t know what’s going on, but I sleep all the time and I never feel rested. The dreams, they don’t go I any order. One night I’m dreaming of the night I was sired, the 다음 Darla and I are at the beach.”
“You were at the 바닷가, 비치 in the daytime?” asked Wesley.
“No, it was night.”
“Anyways…we need to figure out what’s going on.”
“I know that. Maybe if I have another dream tonight….”
“Yes, why don’t 당신 rest,” advised the former Watcher. “We’ll see 당신 in the morning.”
“Morning, Angel,” greeted Gunn.
“Hey,” the vampire yawned widely.
“Angel, did 당신 dream last night?”inquired Wesley.
The vampire stopped to think for a moment. “No,” he frowned. “No, I didn’t.”
“What? How….”
“I don’t know. The thing is, how am I having dreams about Darla when I turned her to dust five years ago? There has to be some mystic stuff involved,” 앤젤 reasoned.
Cordelia walked in then. “What about mystic stuff?”
“I didn’t dream last night. And I’m wondering why I’m even dreaming of Darla in the first place when I dusted her years ago.”
She snorted. “Well, she is your sire and 당신 were together for 150 years! What else could it be, unless she came back from the dead?”
Everyone froze and slowly turned to face her. Cordy shifted uncomfortably. “What?”
앤젤 reached for his coat. “I think it’s time we paid a visit to Wolfram and Hart.”
Lindsay walked into his office and shut the door. He paused, sensing another presence, and smiled.
“I know you’re there.”
앤젤 stepped quietly out of the shadows. “I know about Darla, and I want to know what’s going on. What are the Senior Partners up to now?”
Lindsay shrugged. “I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
Suddenly 앤젤 was behind him, one arm around Lindsay’s throat. “Don’t lie to me,” he hissed.
Lindsay laughed dryly. “I know 당신 won’t kill me.”
앤젤 tightened his grip on the lawyer’s airway. “Won’t I?” He squeezed even harder and Lindsay struggled to breathe. “I can smell your fear. Now tell me what is going on, 또는 I’ll snap your neck. Understand?”
Lindsay nodded. He knew the vampire hated him, and something in Angel’s voice made him believe that he just might kill him. Either way, it wasn’t a chance that Lindsay was very willing to take.
앤젤 released his grip and Lindsay fell to his knees, coughing heavily. Glaring up at his enemy, he slowly stood back up and walked over to his desk. He pulled out a file and tossed it on the table.
“That’s all the information.” He watched 앤젤 flip through it, frowning.
“This file’s only about me.”
“Of course. You, my friend, are a major player in the apocalypse. What did 당신 think was the purpose of getting your soul back?”
“But what does this have to do with Darla? I know Wolfram and Hart brought her back to life.”
“We did.”
“Why? Where is she? If she’s let outside – “
“She won’t eat anyone. She’s human.”
앤젤 started. “Wh-what?”
“Darla is human. When we brought her back, her soul was restored to her.”
“Where is she?” 앤젤 growled.
“You’ll see her soon enough. Now, I suggest 당신 leave. The vampire detector most likely sensed 당신 a long time 이전 and security is on their way up.” Lindsay replaced the file and turned back towards 앤젤 to find him already gone. He sighed.
“Someone seriously needs to put a 벨 on that guy.”
